Captions only you see
Captions appear over OBS's preview, so you can check them while you talk. They are never added to your stream or your recordings.
Translated as you speak
Show the captions as spoken, or translated into another language. Listeners on your broadcast page can follow along in their own language.
Your stream, untouched
The plugin sends audio to VocalStack over a connection of its own. Your YouTube, Twitch or other stream keeps its settings, its key and its quality.

Transcription can start and stop with OBS's own streaming or recording, so there is nothing extra to remember. A button and a hotkey do it by hand.
From OBS to captions in four steps
Install the plugin and restart OBS. The VocalStack dock opens on the right.
Click Sign in with VocalStack and approve OBS in your browser.
Pick a broadcast, the spoken language and how captions should read.
Start streaming or recording in OBS. Transcription starts with it, and captions appear over the preview.
Everything in one panel
The VocalStack dock sits beside OBS's own docks, and you can move it like any of them. The transcription is saved in your VocalStack account as you go.
Broadcast
Pick one of your broadcasts, or make a new one with +. Listeners with its link follow the transcript live, in their own language.
Spoken language
The language you speak in, or Detect to let VocalStack work it out.
Captions
Off, as spoken, or translated into the language you choose.
Send
Audio only, which is all transcription needs and uses little bandwidth, or audio and video.
Start and stop with OBS
On by default: transcription starts when OBS starts streaming or recording, and stops when both have stopped.
Start transcribing
Starts or stops it by hand, without streaming or recording. The hotkey VocalStack: Start/Stop transcribing does the same; set it in OBS's Settings → Hotkeys.
The plugin is free
You pay VocalStack only for the time you transcribe, at the same live rate as the Dashboard and the API.
Every minute OBS sends to VocalStack, from Start to Stop.
Frequently Asked Questions
Install it on your computer
Pick your system and follow along. After installing, restart OBS: the VocalStack dock opens on the right. If it doesn't, open Docks → VocalStack.
Windows 10 and 11
vocalstack-obs-windows-x64.zip.%ProgramData%\obs-studio\plugins and press Enter. If Windows can't find it, open %ProgramData% the same way and create the folders obs-studio, then plugins inside it.vocalstack-obs folder from it into plugins. Windows may ask for administrator permission.
